About Me

Anfisa

My name is Anfisa, For over 10 years I have worked as a yoga therapist including in pre-and postnatal groups. In 2014 one of my yoga students who was expecting a second child asked me to help her during her labor. I was 23 years old and I knew nothing about the birth process. She surprised me by asking that. She said: “I feel calm next to you, and you know all the poses and breathing techniques, you will be a good support”.

I did not agree right away. I thought about it and in the end decided to help, since she asked several times. I started preparing as a birth companion, though I was worried about my role.

During the preparation I felt so inspired, It was like the birth worker profession started to call me.

But one thing is to read about delivery. Being there and helping is more demanding. I was very nervous about what would happen once labor started. On top of everything my friend was aiming for a VBAC. There was so little information about VBACs back then. Read More
So, the day arrived. She called me at about 1 am. We went to the hospital where she labored for about 14 hours. During all these hours I could not believe what was happening. She labored so beautifully. And somehow I intuitively knew how to help. I messaged her back, helped her to move, gave her food and water, and we did many breathing exercises. There was a moment just before pushing when she thought she couldn’t continue. But I was confident and knew it was just a resistance before the finish line. I talked to her and guided her out of that resistance. It was a successful, beautiful VBAC. The baby girl was strong and healthy. Oxytocin flooded the labor room. And I fell in love with births forever. That was the day when I decided – I will be a birth worker. After some time I discover that there is a profession called “doula” and started my education with Birth Arts International (https://www.birtharts.com/) and Childbirth International (https://childbirthinternational.com/). I continued my education as a Breastfeeding counsellor and as a postpartum doula, studied Yu Fai and Thai traditional postpartum practices. Recently I did my master’s degree in body-oriented psychology and psychosomatics. This allows me to provide support on a deeper level and understand how to work with body-mind connection for easier and more positive births Now for over 7 years, I help women in Bangkok and online all around the world.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is a great tool to prepare for a natural delivery. During classes, you will learn breathing techniques and positions for an easier labor. All classes also are therapeutic – solving problems or removing discomfort in pregnancy such as nausea, back or hip ache, low energy, insomnia, digestive complaints, and joint pain. Read More
Before we start the practice I will send you a survey and find out what kind of asanas and exercises will benefit you the most. For online classes, we will make an online consultation to prepare for the most effective practice. Prenatal classes are privet.

Childbirth Education

Childbirth education classes offer you and your partner a deeper understanding of childbirth: physiology, stages of labor and delivery, possible medical interventions, specifics of local care providers, immediate postpartum, how to care for a newborn, important milestone during the first weeks after delivery, breastfeeding and postpartum recovery for a mother.

Hypnobirthing

HypnoBirthing aims to help a woman deal with fears or anxiety she may have around birth topics. It involves various relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to relax the body before and during labor. When the body and mind are in a completely relaxed state, the process of birth becomes easier.. Read More

We have a lot of evidence now that when there is no resistance in the muscles, all tissues of the pelvis are soft and flexible, even big babies are born quicker, with no tearing and in more comfort. 20% of women who practised hypnobirthing regularly before the delivery said that they did not feel any pain during the birth. 60% of women said they felt mild sensation or discomfort, but no pain.

Birth Doula

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical and informational support to new and expectant parents before, during and after birth. A doula is a professional pregnancy companion whose goal is to help families have a safe, healthy and positive labor experience.

Here in Bangkok birth is medicalised. Doctors and nurses provide amazing medical support, but there is a gap for someone to be with you continuously during labor. Read More

Doula will always be by your side, will give you a massage, remind you to breathe and relax, and suggest effective natural pain relief techniques. Evidence shows that with the presence of a doula the risk of getting unnecessary interventions or Cesarean lowes by 30%.

You can give birth by yourself, but why not increase comfort and make this experience easier for you?

Partner Preparation

Childbirth is a long process, more challenging than any marathon, where a birthing person needs support. Doctors’ and medical professionals’ role is to check that there are no complications and the process is safe. There should be someone else near the laboring woman to give physical and emotional comfort. Usually, it is a doula, partner or family member.

Doula is a professional birth companion, familiar with all kinds of situations in births. If hiring a doula is not an option it is important to educate the partner or the family member to provide the best effective support during labor and delivery. That is why I created the course for partners. Read More

Postpartum

Postpartum Yoga

After having a baby, your body needs time to heal and rest — and so does your mind. Postpartum yoga, also referred to as postnatal yoga, can help with both. This form of yoga focuses on recovery and restoration and can alleviate stress and depression after giving birth.

Most of the time you hear that you can start practising yoga at least a few weeks after childbirth. Read More

From my experience the earlier you start the better you help your body to heal. I design a postpartum recovery program that starts with very gentle breathe thing, muscle activation and restorative asanas to close diastasis, tone the pelvic floor and get proper rest. I include yoga Nidra (link for description) in each postpartum yoga class to help women reduce sleep deprivation and give time to the nervous system to recover and relax.

What is included:

– Creating your personal yoga therapy practice
– Setting space for practice in the comfort of your home
– 45 min of exercises and 15 min of deep relaxation (Restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra)

You can choose a package of 6 or 12 classes

Closing The Birth

Birth is a big transformation, a rite of passage, and often an intense and overwhelming event. The body works hard towards bringing a new human onto Earth’s side. It is important to give the body special treatment for a proper recovery.

Traditionally in many cultures, women would always receive postpartum massages, steaming and heating body practices, special food and drinks for weeks after birth, and being in a special “confinement” – resting, staying away from drafts and cold.Read More

At the end of all treatments, there is always a ritual to close the body physically and energetically, process and celebrate the woman and her experience. In Mexican tradition, it’s called “Closing the bones”, in Slavic culture – “Postnatal swaddling”, in Malaysia “Penutup Pantang”. These ceremonies help to realign the bones and muscles, guide the bones back into place, help the pelvic organs shift and the uterus to come back to its original size and place and stimulate blood flow.
Psychologically closing the birth ceremony allows you to let go of negative emotions, and traumatic situations from birth, and helps to see your strength and higher purpose in the way your birth experience has unfolded.
Mentally, some women tend to come back again and again to their births – this is a sign that there is something for them to take out of that day, something to process and release. That is why it does not matter how long ago you gave birth to your child, if thinking about the birth gives you an unsettling feeling – it’s time to look back, receive gifts and close that story.

The closing birth ceremony takes around 4 hours, all this time you will be able to breastfeed and pay attention to your newborn. There is only last 20 min that we need to be one on one with the mother.

What is included:
– Therapeutic talk and birth story processing
– Full body oil massage
– Belly massage
– Pelvic alignment
– Herbal bath (or foot bath in case there is no bathtub in your home)
– Rebozo massage
– Closing body ritual
– Flowers, oils, herbs and crystals for the ceremony

'Yu Fai' And Postpartum Recovery

Yu Fai is a Thai traditional postpartum treatment for healing, establishing milk supply and losing excess weight that is created by toxins and stagnated liquid after pregnancy. It’s also beneficial to have more energy and avoid postpartum depression.

Yu Fai means “To be by the fire”. This is a treatment where I use heat – steam, hot compress, hot drinks and baths. Traditionally in Yu Fai, I use fire, but in an urban setup, I use steam and hot compress that provide similar effects. Read More

You have the option to choose a short, regular or extended Yu Fai program of 7, 14 or 21 days.

What is included:
– Herbs for tea
– Essential oils
– Hot compress
– Full body massages
– Belly massages
– Ubtan
– Rebozo relaxation
– Baths or foot baths
– Nutrition program
– Help with breastfeeding

Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta is an organ that sustains the baby in the uterus through the exchange of vital nutrients and oxygen. Placenta encapsulation is the process when after the delivery placenta is dehydrated and proceeds into pill form, and these capsules are taken postpartum.

The placenta is rich in vitamins and nutrients including iron which is often low postpartum due to bleeding during birth. Read More

Ingesting your placenta can help with postpartum healing in general and can regulate hormones which significantly reduces postpartum baby blues or depression. Many women also report an increase in milk supply and higher energy levels.
There is also a way to use the benefits of placenta nutrients externally by preparing tincture.
If you wish to encapsulate your placenta or make a tincture contact me before your delivery.

María Albillos López

We believe Anfisa to be a great asset to achieve the kind of birth we aimed- calm, natural and non-medicated birth. Despite being in the middle of global pandemic and away from home and family, she made us feel supported and confident throughout pregnancy. Read More

During our prenatal meeting she helped us to educate ourselves on the whole process, focusing on the topics we were most interested on, and answering our questions in the moment. It wasn’t only her well established knowledge that made it for us, but her peaceful, close and comforting personality.
While the delivery, she was a great support, providing the ideal balance between help and space. When she arrived at our home, she created the perfect atmosphere to speed up contractions and started working in the background. She let my husband and I be the center of the experience, helping when having contractions in a subtle and respectful way. I found her pain relief massages during contractions to be invaluable.

We would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for Doula support in Bangkok.

With you there was never a scary moment. When we were preparing for giving birth. Everyday I was listening meditation and even if I didn’t listen it during labour, I still used all the skills and it made the whole process easier. I knew everything happening to me during labour and I was never in any doubt during the labour state- because you were always next to us.
It was very helpful all the positions that we chose. And of course your massages helped during the contractions which made the strong pains a lot less.
Your care and support during the whole labour was super. We are forever grateful. You have given confidence to me and my husband that everything was going right. And we never had any doubts.
Now as we think about this day, we couldn’t imagine how we would be without you.

Now you are a part of our family and if we ever have one more baby, we would only hope to have it with you again ❤️❤️❤️

Open or stabilize pelvic during pregnancy? Genera Open or stabilize pelvic during pregnancy?
General recommendation for prenatal yoga practice is to open pelvis in order to help you to prepare for natural delivery.
However there could be be such conditions as pubic symphysis or other pelvic joint pain during pregnancy. This happens because of the hormone “relaxin” produced by your placenta.
If you experience join pain in pregnancy then your practice should be focus on stabilization and only short gentle stretches.
Remember that every body is different, never practice something that does not feel good. If you have a lot of discomfort or pain - seek for a professional help. Yoga therapy might be just what you need to increase comfort in pregnancy and prepare for easier birth
Physio therapy or osteopath body work can help you with a combination of exercises and healthy routine.

I believe that women are the strongest and able to do anything they want. But I also know that they don’t have to do it alone.
Having doula by your side during birth makes the experience more comfortable, easier, faster. This is confirmed by the evidence and women themself
Did you have doula support in your pregnancy and birth? What was helpful for you?
Being a doula with yoga background I noticed that Being a doula with yoga background I noticed that breathing techniques are one of the most powerful natural pain killers. I see that women who practiced breathing exercises before perceive labor as something “not too hard” or “not that painful” and usually their birth goes faster.
Why? Here are 3 facts about benefits of correct breathing during labor:
1. Breathing helps to relax. Relaxed body has less resistance, so contractions become less painful. And to dilate uterus needs less contractions = faster labor
2. Oxygen has anesthetic effect. More oxygen - less pain
3. Abdominal breathing has strongest pain relief effect than other techniques. But it’s important to practice already in pregnancy so during labor you can automatically use abdominal breathing:

Scarfs or “rushnik” or “reboso” were used Scarfs or “rushnik” or “reboso” were used in childbirth for centuries as a tool to increase comfort during contractions and relax in between.
There are many techniques to help with pain during surges, with stall labor, posterior presentation and many more birth challenges
I always have scarfs in my doula bag and many times they helped to progress faster and avoid unwanted interventions.
Did you try reboso techniques in your labor?
When I prepare women for a birth I always dedicate time for scarfs techniques. It is such a simple yet powerful instrument.

“My OB/GYN says my pelvis is to narrow for a nat “My OB/GYN says my pelvis is to narrow for a natural delivery”
As a doula I hear this often from women I prepare for birth
Here are 3 things important to consider before getting stressed, agreeing for CS and do any kind of measures
1. pelvis is not a solid bone. It is a system of bones and ligaments crafted by nature specifically for birth.
Pelvic rings change the diameter depending on the position we are. When pelvis is tilted forward, while we sit in a car of sofa - pelvic rings are maximum narrow. When we are in all fours and squatting positions pelvic rings are maximum wide
2. Only osteopath can correctly estimate if you have a narrow pelvis.
3. Remember that baby’s head is build to be born naturally and able to mold during delivery, creating a funny cone shape. This is physiological and as studies shown important to kick start the production of important hormones responsible for your baby’s brain development. Some CS babies need body work in order to start these hormones to produce.
After delivery baby’s head safely molds back to rounded shape due to movements of jaws while breastfeeding.
Did you Dr told you you have narrow pelvis or that your baby is “too big”?

Usually women get recommendations not to exercise Usually women get recommendations not to exercise at list 4 weeks after natural birth or 4 months after c-section…
However early postpartum is a great time to nurture the body and realign it as there is still a lot of relaxin.
Doing correct recovery practice will prevent prolapse of pelvic floor and organs, increase energy level and create a strong base for spine and abdominal muscles 💪🏻

That is why I would like to share with you the most beneficial Thai herbs for pregnancy and early postpartum.
Let’s start with Bael fruit. I have never seen a fresh one, by the way, have you?
You might be familiar with Bael fruit drink as its a common welcome drink in local SPAs and hotels.
Most of the time it’s full of sugar. So for a healthier version you can make one at home.
You will need 3 slices of dry Bael fruit, 1 l of water. Boil it until the amount of water reduced to aprx 600 ml. Drink it cold or hot. I recommend hot or warm for postpartum.
Benefits in pregnancy and after delivery
- Helps to keep body well hydrated, rich in potassium and electrolytes (consider to drink during labor, if you like the taste)
- Reduces problems with digestion and constipation
Has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, strengthens immune system
Have you tried the drink? How do you like the taste?
“Back labor” can slow the progress of labor, c “Back labor” can slow the progress of labor, create more pain and cause more physical and emotional distress.

What can cause OP?
❌sitting for prolonged period of time regularly
❌specifics of the anatomy of the pelvis
❌previous injury
❌tight ligaments of the pelvis
What can help to prevent OP or OT?
✅leaning forward during pregnancy
✅if you sit for a long time - change position every 30 minutes. Consider to sit on fitness ball instead (there is a video about it below)
✅prenatal yoga (especially leaning forward asanas, such as ardha uttanasana)
✅dancing (belly dance, bachata, hula dance - all kinds of dances with hip movements)
✅body work, spinning babies, physiotherapy
Soon I will share a video what to do if you are in “back” labor.
