Bangkok: The Hub of Medical Tourism in Asia
Bangkok stands as the epicenter of medical tourism within Asia, drawing people from all corners of the globe seeking high-quality medical services at prices more affordable than in Europe, the USA, Korea, or Singapore. It also serves as a reliable source of medical assistance for expats residing throughout Southeast Asia.
Even for those who relish a simpler lifestyle in the countryside of Cambodia, the health needs, especially concerning a mother and her baby, demand the best possible care. Bangkok offers top-tier medical options that prioritize safety, quality, and accessibility—making it the preferred choice for critical healthcare needs.
Choosing a Hospital in Bangkok for Natural Birth
As I mentioned, many hospitals in Bangkok provide high-quality medical care, but when it comes to a natural process like childbirth, it's crucial to minimize unnecessary interventions. In Bangkok, only two hospitals actively support natural births: Samitivej and Bumrungrad.
Samitivej is perhaps the best option for those seeking a less medicalized birth experience. It features a natural labor room equipped with a tub for water births, birthing chairs, and balls. Both Samitivej and Bumrungrad welcome doulas to support the woman and her partner during the birth process.
Unfortunately, home births and midwife practices are not legal in Thailand. Therefore, if you're looking for a birth experience with minimal medical intervention, Samitivej is your top choice.
Choosing Your OB/GYN in Bangkok
When selecting a healthcare provider, I recommend choose the one who supports your birth choices and gives you feeling of trust and comfort. There are hospitals that prone to support natural birth more than others such as Samitivej Srinakarin and Medpark. Bumrungrad and Samitivej Sukhumvit also a good choice.
